Tips to improve your sleep
Here is a short video with Matthew Walker, PhD. talking with tips for getting better sleep and also the bad things that happen when you don’t get enough sleep.
I first heard Matthew Walker on a Joe Rogan podcast sometime back in 2018 and it blew me away. The podcast is about two hours long and I listened intently to every minute. Since then I’ve listened to it again several times, as well as reading his book “Why We Sleep”.
I was always one of those guys who thought I could tough it out and get along on less sleep, even though I know the human body can NOT adapt to lack of sleep. I just figured I would make it up on the weekends. This interview and taught me a lesson I wish I had learned in my twenties. Since I discovered Matthew Walker, I can count on the fingers of both hands the number of days I have not had at least 7 hours sleep. Many of those days include a 1.5 hour mid day nap, but I got my 7+ hours within the day.
This discovery also led me to update our original “Health Pyramid”, one derived from the CrossFit community, to now include ‘Sleeping 7-9 Hours a Day” to be the foundational level, or base, of the pyramid.
